Throbbing fingers falter
Tender from each misguided prick
Hopes and dreams patched together
With glue and string to make them stick.
Lives are sewn together
Hastily but carefully played
An intricate pattern emerges
And a patchwork quilt is made.
Some seams are made to be ripped
And squares to be pulled out clean
While others must be cut
And jagged edges must remain.
My quilt is full of holes
Pieces that have been worn through
Missing parts of my life
That use to guide me through.
But you have always been the string
That has mended up my tears
That has guided and has comforted me
Throughout the passing years.
My quilt is worn and ragged
And bloody dots show through in spots
But I know that it will last me through
Because every string ends with a knot.

I closed the chapter of my life where you reside.
I finally had the courage to put you up in the place reserved only for memories.
It took awhile, was painful, was sad, but now it is done.
You are done.
A finished chapter in a book that was good enough to read but not worth holding on to.

The wind carries away her gentle sigh, unheard
As his fingers play softly with her golden hair
The young boy stares wondrously at the lustful pair
His faith in them is as always, undeterred
The love from the child is frequently undeserved
Brown hair which caresses his beautiful eyes
Smiles that emerge no matter how much he cries
This day in his mind will be forever preserved
As he stood there at that last love joy intersection
And watched as the man came gun in hand
He pointed, screamed, shot, two dead
Grasping each other in undying affection
Stolen watches, wallets, and a wedding band
And tears which intermingled as the blood started to spread

A sea
A vast and lonely sea
Forever draped in cold unbiased hatred
Satin lined and captivating silence
This bed which once held moonlit trysts
Now holds broken trust
A sea of crumpled sheets
Cold where you use to wish to be

Frustrating.
This constant wave of chaotic inconsistency
Where desire becomes lost in mundane things
Forgotten all hopes, dreams, and simplicity
Broken vows and wedding rings
Punished by unrelenting silence
A scream of deafening quiet
When love is met with noncompliance
And you continue to deny it
When the ever present beast of burden
Claws at my broken heart
Dissecting it like a skillful surgeon
Forever tearing it apart
Until there is nothing that remains
But this constant wave of inconsistency

There was this moment, this second
When you grew just another half inch
Just enough to reach the doorknob

Too caught up in this crazy world
